DEQ announces public comment period and opportunity for public hearing on draft permit to construct and Tier 1 operating permit administrative amendment for Amalgamated Sugar Company

Accepting comments from October 17, 2024, through November 18, 2024.

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is announcing a public comment period and an opportunity for a public hearing on a draft permit to construct and Tier 1 operating permit amendment for Amalgamated Sugar Company.

Amalgamated Sugar Company operates a beet sugar manufacturing plant in Twin Falls, Idaho. The plant operates under an existing Tier 1 permit and submitted a request to modify the facility’s current permit to construct. This action would authorize the installation of a new natural gas-fired boiler and removal of the existing Keeler boiler.

The application materials are available for public review at DEQ’s State Office (1410 N. Hilton Street, Boise, Idaho) and on DEQ’s Public Comment Opportunities page. An opportunity for a public hearing will be provided if written requests are submitted on or before November 1, 2024. Written comments will be accepted through November 18, 2024, at 5 p.m. MDT.
