DEQ announces public comment period and opportunity for public hearing on draft Tier 1 operating permit for Pickles Butte Sanitary Landfill

Accepting comments from October 15, 2024, through November 14, 2024.

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is announcing a public comment period and an opportunity for a public hearing on a draft Tier 1 operating permit for Pickles Butte Sanitary Landfill.

Pickles Butte Sanitary Landfill is a municipal solid waste facility located in Nampa, Idaho, that accepts residential municipal solid waste, commercial waste, and green wastes. In 2023, the facility also installed a gas collection and control system to meet federal requirements.

The facility applied for a Tier 1 operating permit in August 2023, which establishes facility-wide requirements in accordance with the Idaho State Implementation Plan control strategy and the “Rules for the Control of Air Pollution” (IDAPA 58.01.01). The Tier 1 operating permit would also incorporate the existing permit to construct, which was issued in August 2023.

The application materials are available for public review at DEQ’s State Office (1410 N. Hilton Street, Boise, Idaho) and on DEQ’s Public Comment Opportunities page. An opportunity for a public hearing will be provided if written requests are submitted on or before October 30, 2024. Written comments will be accepted through November 14, 2024, at 5 p.m. MT.
