DEQ’s Kellogg office works to protect human health and improve the environment in the Coeur d’Alene River Basin through coordination with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Panhandle Health District, local governments, and the community. In 1983, EPA listed the Bunker Hill Mining and Metallurgical Complex as a Superfund site on the National Priorities List. Covering over 1,500 square miles, the Coeur d’Alene River Basin is one of the largest and most complex environmental cleanup sites in the nation.
